Most online brokerage firms will offer free online stock trading for as an introductory offer or an introductory number of trades. Therefore you can trade commission free (the additional amount over the cost of the stock x the number of shares) and use this to buy very low priced shares, other wise commission would kill you on smaller trades.

Look into TD Waterhouse, Charles Schwab, Scottrade, AmeriTrade, E*Trade, and any other online brokerage firm that offers online stock trading.



You will need to do some research on the companies that you are looking at possibly purchasing stocks in but you can do all this through the internet, visit www.sec.gov, MSN Moneycentral, Yahoo Finance, Bloomberg, etc. Just about all online brokerage houses will also offer you some kind of access to stock reports and market reports through their websites.

Check around, sometimes it is better to use a subscription service rather than a free one just because the information ca be more organized.
