What Is Forex Trading?

What is Forex trading? This is the business of trading in foreign currency (hence the name Foreign Exchange).

The Forex market is a place where the currencies of nations from across the globe are bought and sold through a broker or market maker. Investors buy these currencies on the speculation that the currency purchased will increase in value. This increase in value occurs due to changing economic conditions of the countries involved. Real time daily events effect the stability of a currency, Forex trading as a result is considered a very risky business indeed.

There are some benefits however to the Forex market:

A 24 Hour Market Seeing as the market is world wide, as long as there is a market open somewhere in the world trading can take place. The markets open in Australia on Sunday night and close in New York at close of business on Friday.

Ability to profit from both rising and falling markets. Falling and volatile market offer opportunity for large profits. The Forex market has no restrictions on directional trading.

High Liquidity. Liquidity is the ability to turn an asset into cash. When trading in money the asset is cash.

Zero commission trading.

Brokers allow the use of leverage This is essentially credit. Brokers allow to spend more money on paper than you actually have in a trading account.

Low transaction cost. Typically the cost of the transaction is built into the price of the trade.

So what are Forex trading disadvantages? Well, the fact that 7 out of 10 traders lose their money is the big one. This is not a market for beginners. Huge profits can be made, but so can huge losses. It is definitely advisable to research considerably before trying this type of investment.
